introduction

for our homework at school we are doing a report on parihaka, this is my intro hope you like it.

Term one has been fantastic. In our inquiry unit we have been learning about standing strong, which means that you stand up for what you believe in and standing up for your beliefs. Year 7 and 8 have done a-lot of homework and inquiry on people who have stood up for what they believe in for instance there is, Mother Teresa, Che Guevara, Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King and Kate Sheppard. It has all been very fascinating to hear about their beliefs and what they stood up for.

Through out our inquiry we have also have been learning about parihaka and how Te Whiti and Tohu were leaders in Parihaka (a village in Taranaki) we have been learning about how we should use only peaceful communication, instead of war.

Parihaka fits in with our inquiry because Te Whiti and Tohu stood strong about what they believed and what they thought was right, which is standing strong.

I have chosen parihaka because I think more people should hear about it and the place, it has had a lot going on in the village and that is why I am doing it for my inquiry.
